Match Report
Shrewsbury House School 1st VII vs  National U13 VII's
On: Friday, 29 Mar 2019
Venue: Away

The 1st VII rugby team had the considerable honour of representing the school in the last external event of the season (and term) – the National Rugby VIIs, hosted by Rosslyn Park. This competition remains one of the premier (and certainly the biggest) events of its type in the world. Hundreds of teams from every corner of the UK (and from around the world) gather to compete over five glorious days of rugby of the highest order.

The SHS team completed their VIIs season (and their final rugby for their school) in the U13 competition on Friday of last week. A tough schedule of five games spread over the course of the day pitted our elite team against opposition from as far away as Bedfordshire and Yorkshire. The team has developed very well over the past weeks and this was in evidence on Friday – winning (in style) four of the five matches. Only Lord Wandsworth College proved capable of matching SHS and they ran out winners by just three tries to two! And this was to be telling in the final tally for the league of six teams: SHS equal on points and wins with Lord Wandsworth College but nudged into second place by virtue of a poorer “tries scored” record (by ONE!). So close!

Of course top spot would have been “nice” but did it really detract from the experience or value of the day? – not a jot. To witness the emotion displayed by the boys in coming to terms with the end of their rugby journey with SHS (and with their friends) was not only moving, but also pride evoking – to have had a stake in supporting the boys through ventures of which they are so connected is quite something. Boys – you can be very proud of your contribution to SHS and to SHS Sport. A reminder
